GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KBTX) — Blinn College earned a 13-3 run-rule victory over reigning national champion Salt Lake Community College in its opening game of the NJCAA Division I World Series.
The Buccaneers trailed 3-0 after the top of the first inning before responding with a Jack Bohacek solo home run in the bottom of the frame. Ryley Leininger then hit a grand slam in the same inning to give Blinn the lead.
The Bucs scored the rest of their runs on singles, a passed ball, a balk and an error. Blinn scored three runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth, putting itself in position to win the game in the fifth inning thanks to the JUCO World Series run-rule.
Dylan Thompson went the distance for the Bucs, allowing three runs on five hits to earn the five-inning victory.
Blinn College now advances to the World Series winner’s bracket. The Buccaneers will next play Monday at 10 a.m. Central. All games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
