Resource fair encourages Laurel-area seniors to ‘Champion Your Health’

LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) – Senior citizens from the Jones County area were invited to the Laurel Train Depot Thursday for an event featuring health and wellness products and services, just for them.

DJ Transit, the Laurel Housing Authority and the city of Laurel coordinated the senior resource fair.

“We’ve all united to come together to pay tribute to our seniors as May is Older Americans Month, and this year’s theme is ‘Champion Your Health,’” DJ Transit Regional Mobility Manager Donna Bailey said.

The fair featured 30 vendors offering free health screenings or information about senior healthcare, nutrition and volunteer opportunities.

“This one-stop shop is amazing, and it provides the resources that our residents need and our community constituents need to be successful in this community,” R.O.S.S. Coordinator for the Laurel Housing Authority, Tito Lanier, said.

Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District sponsored the event.
