William Floyd High School students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) U.S. Government & Politics recently took a field trip to New York City to attend the hit Broadway show Hamilton! This was an exciting, educational excursion that reinforced course curriculum by having students attend a show centered around American politics and the founding of our nation. By attending this production, students continued to add to their growing knowledge of governmental structures, processes and responsibilities and the reasoning behind them.

“This field trip is something that I have wanted to do for the past few years because civics education is crucially important in developing the next generation of informed and responsible citizens and leaders who understand governmental structures, processes, and responsibilities and why they have been developed throughout our nation’s history,” said Lisa Taiani, AP U.S. Government & Politics teacher. “With this year being the 250th anniversary of the nation, I could think of no better time. Traveling to NYC to see a Broadway production that is historically accurate, brings an interdisciplinary, cultural experience to the civics/AP US Government & Politics curriculum. It brings it to life in a way that reading, annotating, and analyzing texts and founding documents, watching video clips, all within the confines of a classroom does not.”
