Greater than 6,000 prisoners escaped from a high-security facility in Maputo on Christmas Day following a rise up, throughout which at the very least 33 inmates have been killed. The chaos erupted amid violent protests and riots triggered by the affirmation of the ruling Frelimo celebration’s victory in October’s elections.
