Downtown shooting NC | 2 shot multiple times near Raleigh courthouse in downtown

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — Two people were hurt in a shooting outside the Old Wake County Courthouse in downtown Raleigh late Friday morning, authorities said.

The Raleigh Police Department, Wake County Sheriff’s Office, and Federal Protective Service officers responded just after 10:30 a.m. to the courthouse at 300 Fayetteville Street.

When officers arrived, they found two victims. Police said the suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

The suspect has been identified as Gwendolyn White, 57, who was taken to a hospital. Charges of attempted murder are pending.

Investigators said there is no ongoing threat to the community. All three people involved are believed to be connected to a civil court case scheduled for Friday.

As a result of the incident, both Wake County courthouses are closed for the remainder of the day:

“Due to the shooting incident in downtown Raleigh and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our staff and customers, the Wake County Register of Deeds office (and the Wake County Justice Center) will be closed for the remainder of today. While our physical office is closed, our e-recording services will remain fully operational.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this situation.”

The investigation is ongoing.
