TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Stormont Vail Health held its 2026 Excellence in EMS Award Celebration on Friday, May 22, in honor of EMS workers across the region.
This week is National EMS Week, dedicated to the first responders who treat and transport those in need of help during emergencies.
The celebration invited EMS workers for a day of fun, games and treats.
Alex Bergstrom, Nemaha County EMS professional, was the guest of honor for the celebration. Bergstrom was recognized for his exceptional care in a life-saving situation.
“I was very much caught off guard,” Bergstrom said. “It’s an honor and a privilege and a dream to be able to take care of people on their worst days. Even more so to be able to see them and talk to them and laugh with them after those worst days too.”
The event also featured visits with the hospital’s therapy dogs.
