U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie may be weighing whether to fight for his seat in Congress again.
KENTUCKY, USA — After losing his seat in Congress to a Trump-backed challenger, U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie is considering whether to fight for it back in two years.
Massie has held Kentucky’s 4th congressional district seat for 14 years, but lost by nearly 10 points to Republican Ed Gallrein.
On Monday, the congressman shared that filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission for the seat when it’s up for reelection in 2028.
The new filing does not necessarily mean that Massie will run for Congress again in 2028, however.
“This allows me to raise funds to continue my political operations supporting my position as a current office holder and as a potential candidate for federal office,” he wrote in a social media post. “I haven’t made a final decision about which office to seek, if I run.”
In an interview on Sunday with NBC’s Meet the Press, Massie wouldn’t indicate what his political future holds.
“I’ve spent the last five days on my farm with my grandkids and my cattle and my peach trees, and it’s a pretty nice life. I don’t know if I want to screw that up again,” he said. “But I think I will stay engaged in some way or shape, maybe it’s from the outside. I’ve been exposing what’s going on in Washington D.C. for year and I will keep doing it.”
