South Africa’s largest knowledge centre operator, Teraco, has signed an influence buy settlement with “power aggregator” NOA to provide wind-powered renewable power to its amenities.
The transfer follows the announcement final yr that the corporate is constructing its personal photo voltaic PV plant within the Free State, which is able to produce as much as 120MW of electrical energy.
“In South Africa, wind generates energy via the night time and into the early morning, making it a superb complementary supply of energy to photo voltaic, which is generated throughout daylight,” Teraco mentioned in a press release on Wednesday. “The mixture permits far larger ranges of renewable power protection.”
Beneath the deal, NOA will wheel renewable power from varied wind tasks to Teraco’s amenities.
“The renewable power wheeled to Teraco’s amenities will complement Teraco’s photo voltaic programme, maximising renewable power throughout Teraco’s knowledge centres. These tasks will ramp up progressively over time with the primary energy anticipated to be wheeled in 2026,” Teraco mentioned.

“Wheeling renewable power throughout electrical grids permits energy to be moved from a renewable power producer in outlying areas through current transmission and distribution methods to finish customers situated in city areas. It additionally permits the deployment of renewable power tasks to areas with excessive power yield to maximise renewable power era potential,” it added. – © 2025 NewsCentral Media
