City program encourages restaurants to offer outdoor seating | Lifestyle

SPOKANE, Wash. —  Patio season is upon the Inland Northwest. Many families enjoyed an outside barbeque Memorial Day weekend.

The city of Spokane is encouraging restaurants to offer seating outside as it prepares for summer events. But that doesn’t mean a waitstaff will be serving guests outside.

Many businesses already have outdoor seating, carved out of space from sidewalks or alleyways.

The city’s Cafe’ Table Pilot Program offers restaurants and coffee shops cafe style tables and chairs from June to August.

According to the guidelines:

• Restaurants and businesses can provide take-out items for customers who may choose to use the adjacent tables.

• The café table sets are not provided for consumption of alcohol or direct table service.

• Tables will be available for public use.

• Requesting businesses and restaurants will be asked to confirm that they have enough outdoor space in adjacent public right-of-way to accommodate the café table set.

Businesses must also agree to maintain the cafe table set and keep the areas clean.
